Biography
David J. Nuñez is a native El Pasoan and a dedicated trial attorney with nearly a decade of courtroom experience. He graduated from Montwood High School in 2003 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving four years as an infantryman. During his military service, he served with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Charley Company, as an 0351 Infantry Assaultman, and completed two combat deployments to Iraq in 2006 and 2007–2008. He was honorably discharged in 2009.
Following his military service, Mr. Nuñez pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2012. He then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, obtaining his Juris Doctor.
After law school, Mr. Nuñez returned to his hometown of El Paso to serve as an Assistant District Attorney with the El Paso District Attorney’s Office from 2017 to 2021. In that role, he prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases, handling matters ranging from Class B misdemeanors to capital felonies, and gained substantial experience through numerous hearings and jury trials.
After leaving the El Paso District Attorney’s Office in 2021, Mr. Nuñez entered private practice with the Valenzuela Law Firm. There, he continued handling a similarly broad spectrum of criminal cases, again ranging from Class B misdemeanors to capital felonies, while also being entrusted with complex white collar matters at both the state and federal levels.
Today, Mr. Nuñez brings the benefit of his prosecutorial background, military discipline, and trial-tested advocacy to the representation of individuals facing serious criminal charges. His practice is rooted in providing principled, strategic, and aggressive defense for clients throughout El Paso and the surrounding region.
